To use artificial turf or not

Fake grass for the garden is a source of intense debate among homeowners. There's a constant debate about whether to use artificial turf. According to purchasing statistics from abroad, people prefer it to natural grass. You can make a final decision after considering the advantages and disadvantages of artificial turf.

Artificial turf

What are the advantages of artificial grass?

The main advantage, of course, is its versatility. This type of grass can be used anywhere in the property, and it can be given any shape and form. Artificial turf can be installed in places where natural grass would never grow.

Using this type of covering, it's easy to create a grass staircase. Simply glue several strips of the required size to the steps.
Artificial material can be shaped into any form, no matter how intricate. Doing the same with real grass would require a tremendous amount of time, effort, and money.

From an economic point of view, plastic grass is advantageous: there is no need for regular watering, mowing, or additional maintenance products.

Disadvantages of artificial grass

Every salesperson's priority is to sell a product, not to mention its shortcomings. Unfortunately, artificial grass has certain drawbacks.

Environmentalists point out that plastic turf insulates the soil, reducing the likelihood that natural vegetation will grow there in the future.

Artificial field

Unlike living grass, artificial turf does not produce oxygen. This argument is made on a colossal scale, affecting the planet's ecology. Whether or not to heed the experts' opinion is up to the property owner.

Several obvious disadvantages of artificial turf, confirmed by private home owners:

  • absorbs pet excrement odors;
  • gets hot in the sun;
  • does not absorb moisture well, after rain the water stays there for a long time;
  • Cheap products have a short service life.

The final choice whether to use artificial turf or not remains solely with the homeowner.
