Helenium in the landscape

Helenium is a perennial shrub, hardy and undemanding. It blooms until late autumn. Its numerous varieties boast late summer hues—yellow, orange, red, and reddish-brown. The flowers have a convex, darker center. If you prefer this plant, you can choose the right varieties to brighten your garden from July to late October.

At the porch

Plant the popular, bright red hybrid Helenium 'Rubinzwerg' next to your porch. It grows up to 65 cm, blooms in July, and remains a delight until fall. Place it next to the snow-white panicle hydrangea 'Polar Bear,' which blooms at the same time, and your porch will be decorated throughout the summer season.

At the wall

If you have a sunny wall, feel free to plant sun-loving heleniums there. All autumn varieties will thrive there. The golden flowers of September Gold and Bressingham Gold will look beautiful against a backdrop of red brick or wood.

By the fence

Some helenium varieties grow up to 1.5 m in height (Sonnen wunder), while others reach 1.8 m (Superbum rubrum). Because they grow quite large, they can serve as a small shelter from prying eyes.

Path framing

Plant yellow heleniums along paths, pairing them with blue and purple salvias, asters, and monardas. Or plant red varieties with snow-white daisies or chrysanthemums.

Decorating a fountain or pond

Helenium feels very good in moist, sunny areas near a pond or fountain.

Helenium accent

A bright accent

In flowerbeds, heleniums are used as a background and mid-ground plant. However, be careful that other perennials don't interfere with their growth. If you use boxwood to frame the flowerbed, planting different varieties of heleniums inside is sufficient. This will be a colorful accent in any corner of your garden.

Solitude with Helenium

Rural landscape

Helenium will look spectacular with yellow-gold marigolds, goldenrod, snow-white phlox, and garden daisies, creating a unique rural atmosphere, calming you when you want to retire.
