How I planted a peony in the spring, step by step

Planting peonies in spring is not recommended. But since I didn't have time in the fall, I decided to plant them in the spring anyway.

Peony root

I bought a herbaceous peony. It's easier to grow.

The hole should have been dug in advance, of course, but I couldn't do that because I hadn't planned the planting. I just happened to like the flower when I went to the store to buy it.

  • I dug a hole 60 cm by 60 cm.

Peony and a shovel

  • I put drainage (small stones) at the bottom.

Drainage in the pit

  • Then, adding some soil, I added about a bucket of humus, a glass of superphosphate and 2 glasses of ash.

Pit with drainage

  • Then I covered everything with soil, making a small mound.

A covered hill

  • I placed a peony on this mound, spreading out the roots.

Planting a peony

  • I pre-soaked it in a solution of water and vermicompost.

Fertilizer on the ground

  • Then I dipped it into a mixture of fertile soil of the consistency of sour cream with the addition of the same vermicompost.

Peony

  • Holding it in place, I covered it with the remaining soil. Then I watered it thoroughly.

Watering can with water

When planting peonies in the spring, they recommend watering them every day to help them establish roots before the heat sets in. I'll try to do that. I'll also plant dahlias later. I'll write about how I did it.
