Proper care of the plants largely determines the success of a bountiful potato harvest. However, to ensure healthy and strong potato plants, producing large tubers without signs of damage, the planting material must be treated before planting.
There are many specialized products for this purpose. In this article, we'll discuss Prestige. It's used to treat tubers, and by the time the harvest begins, the active ingredients are neutralized, resulting in healthy and strong potatoes.

Prestige Potato Treatment: Description and Composition
Prestige belongs to the insecticide-fungicide group of products. It was developed by the renowned German company Bayer Crop-Science. It prevents the growth of various types of fungi and also prevents the appearance of insect pests in garden beds.
Prestige consists of the following components:
- imidacloprid – 140 g/l;
- pencycuron – 150 g/l.
The action of the substances in Prestige
Many gardeners are skeptical about using chemicals. However, there's enough time between treatment and harvest for the active ingredients to work and dissipate.
Imidacloprid is an effective insecticide. If a pest attacks treated potatoes, it will undergo irreversible neuroparalytic changes in its body. The insect population will decline within hours.
Efficiency has been tested on the following parasites:
- Colorado beetle;
- mole cricket;
- wireworm;
- aphid;
- fleas;
- cicadas;
- potato moth with its larvae.
Pencycuron actively targets fungal spores, inhibiting their activity. This medication helps reduce the risk of a number of dangerous diseases:
- Rhizoctonia;
- scab;
- wet rot.

Very often plantings suffer from late blightThis is due to unstable weather conditions during the potato's active growth period. Treating the tubers with Prestige strengthens their immunity, allowing them to adapt more easily to temperature fluctuations, which in turn reduces the risk of late blight.
Many gardeners admit that after treating their potatoes with Prestige, their yield almost doubles. Indeed, because the plants are less susceptible to disease, more tubers are produced.
Instructions for use of Prestige for processing potatoes
Although the cost of the drug may seem relatively high (from 2 to 7.5 rubles per 1 ml depending on the volume), Prestige is used quite economically.
The product is available in 15, 20, 60, 150, and 500 ml bottles and 1 and 5 liter canisters. The packaging includes clear instructions describing the dilution and use procedure.
Before processing, it's recommended to sprout the potatoes. This process takes about three weeks. Large, smooth, undamaged tubers are selected for planting. They are placed in boxes and placed in a well-lit area (but not in direct sunlight) where the temperature is 15°C. Processing can begin after one day.
The recipe is simple. You'll need:
- measuring cup;
- spray;
- 10 ml of Prestige product;
- 100 ml of water at room temperature.
The prepared solution is enough to treat 10 kg of planting material.
The required amount of the product is diluted in water and mixed thoroughly. The selected potatoes are placed on a thick film previously prepared for spraying. It's helpful to have two people do this, so that they can then hold the film at both ends and mix the potatoes to ensure they are evenly coated. The potatoes are then left to dry. Only then can they be returned to the boxes and allowed to germinate.
When to use Prestige for processing potatoes
Once you've decided on a date to sprout the tubers, place them in boxes and keep them in a warm place. The next day, you can begin processing the potatoes. The advantage of this method is that it helps develop strong immunity in the tubers.
However, some gardeners use a different method and treat the tubers immediately before planting them in the ground (three hours before planting). Treating sprouted potatoes also has an undeniable advantage: the effect of Prestige lasts for several weeks longer. The main thing is to let the tubers dry before planting them in the holes.
Preparation of working solution
The working solution of Prestige is generally considered to be 10 ml per 100 ml of water. Consequently, the consumption rate is low – just 1 ml per 1 kg of planting material.
Important! The solution should not come into contact with freshly cut tubers!
Duration of validity of the drug Prestige
Prestige's active ingredients remain in the tubers for two months. However, by the time of planting, if the tubers are treated before germination, the effectiveness of insect protection is significantly reduced. The plant remains toxic to the Colorado potato beetle for 36-38 days after treatment, and to aphids for up to 40 days.
Fungicides have a longer period of action and retain their protective properties for almost the entire growing season of potatoes.
Important! The prepared preparation cannot be stored; it should be used immediately after preparation.
The danger of Prestige for humans and precautions
When working with chemicals, it is necessary to follow a number of important rules:
- Be sure to protect your hands with gloves and mucous membranes with special means (goggles, respirator);
- carry out treatment in the open air or in a very well ventilated area;
- When outdoors, stay away from fruit bushes and trees;
- wash your clothes after finishing work;
- Carry out disembarkation wearing gloves.
If the solution comes into contact with skin or eyes, rinse the affected area with running water. If allergic reactions occur, consult a doctor immediately.
Compatibility of Prestige with other drugs
The product combines well with a number of other preventative measures:
- complex action fertilizer Mikom;
- growth activator Poteytin;
- growth stimulator Epin;
- fungicide Maxim;
